Alton Towers and their market
It is very important for a company to know what costumers want. A business would carry out market research to know about economic trends and the consumers’ views.
Primary research is obtaining new data for a specific purpose. Firms carry out primary research where the information they want does not already exist eg questionnaires
The advantages of primary research are that the firm has control over the whole process. The disadvantages are that it takes longer and costs more. Secondary research has the advantages of being cheaper and quicker than field research. The disadvantages are not knowing if the findings are accurate or how they will be relevant to your findings.
In my investigation of Alton Towers I will be hoping to find the different age ranges eg for rides and different sideshows there are. I will also hope to find out about what type of people visit Alton Towers and how many people visit Alton Towers each year.

Introduction
A SWOT analysis is a technique used to help the marketing department to assess products. It’s a way of seeing the internal strengths and weaknesses together with the external opportunities and threats of products.
I will carry out a SWOT analysis for Alton Towers to see the improvements that could be made to make the theme park better and the strengths and opportunities the park already has. I will then sum up the information gained from my SWOT analysis in my conclusion.
Alton Towers has many of strengths, which have been aiding its success for many years. One of these strengths is its location. Alton Towers is surrounded by acres of land, which means they have lots of space to expand, to build new rides and keep up with the competition. It is easily accessible to most of the UK due to the fact that it is near major motorways, so therefore it gets more consumers because of it’s beneficial location.
Another strength of Alton Towers is it’s high-status name.
Alton Towers is recognised nationally for its good services, new age technology and most of all its fantastic rides. All these features attract more consumers, which earns them more capital.
A further strength for Alton Towers is its catering and retailing links. This is a key strength because the franchises like MacDonald’s, Pizza Hut and Burger King are big names, so they attract a lot of consumers because they know they can enjoy further luxuries during their time at the park. Also MacDonald’s, Pizza Hut etc like to have shops at the park because they know that Alton Towers is a big name and they will make good capital. Alton Towers would also get money from the franchises for the privilege of selling products at the park.
