Two twenty-year old New Providence men are dead after the motorcycle they were riding on crashed into a tree that had fallen across the road. The accident happened at 10 pm Thursday night in Martic Township Thursday. Scott Matthew Bachman and Jeremy Stephen Rineer, both 20, were dead at the scene after flying off the bike at 1057 Marticville Road.
Police say Scott Bachman was driving north on Marticville Road when he came to a tree fallen across the northbound lane. He braked just before crashing into the tree but still ended up hitting part of it. The motorcycle, driver and his passenger, Jeremy Rineer all hit the tree. Bachman's helmet struck the tree and Rineer, who was not wearing a helmet, also struck the tree.
Bachman and the motorcycle continued to travel about 110 feet before coming to a final rest. Rineer was thrown from the back of the motorcycle and landed about 30 feet from the tree.
