What are Correspondances?
Correspondances are like the Magickal Ingredients that we use for calling forth energy and affecting
the desired change or outcome. Below here you'll find lots of tables of Correspondances, listing
the various concepts/needs that you may have, and the Oils, Herbs, Timings, Minerals, Stones,
Woods, etc that have been found (through lots of trial and error over many years by many people)
to work well. This is by no means a full list, nor is it meant to be, but does give you a starting place
to begin from in your own search for what works for yourself!
I might also state that this list is not written in stone. As with everything in the Craft, it's your
own Path, you have to decide what works for you, what means what to yourself, and go with that!
There are no right or wrong answers, just many different paths that all lead to the same place.
Therefore if one colour means something different to you, or if one stone has a different feeling
for you then by all means use it for your own reasons. Your Path is your own, don't let someone else's Path be the absolute.
If you want to find your own Correspondance list, you can make a list of things you may feel you
may need spells for in the future. They could be any concept that you feel may improve your life
now, or possibly be needed in the future. Examples may include love, passion, money, career,
health. Think about these concepts that you are going to need, and what things stick out in your
own mind when you think of them, for instance, you may associate the smell of Pine or
Cedar with childhood memories of Yule, and remember being happy over the holiday. This
could then form the basis of a personal correspondance for happiness, the scent of Pines!
Using the charts in your books, etc. list three correspondences (3 is a Magickal number, and it
is rare to need more than three correspondances for any spell!) for each of the concepts that
you have listed. (If you can’t see something you have listed, look for the nearest thing. For
example, if you have put down “promotion” and can’t see it, use the correspondences for “career” or “ambition”).
You can also perform the same process to find your own personal correspondances for the 8
Sabbats of the Year, taking the associations you have of each of the seasons and using them.
One way to do this is to make a pie chart, divided into 8. Assign each segment to one of
the Sabbats, and using your own associations (or the wiki details if you get stuck), find out the
correspondences to each - colours, stones, herbs, seasonal offerings, meanings, incenses,
oils. Make it as presentable as possible so that you can keep it and add to it as you perform
each Sabbat ritual. Finally, do the same for the four points - North, South, East and West. Copy
these charts into your personal Book Of Shadows, and you have the basis of your own personal Correspondances.
Doing the above exercise will make the Correspondances much more alive and personal to you,
and not just some long list of abstract concepts from a dusty boring book that you only use when you absolutely have to!
