Produced by series veteran Jun Takeuchi, this next-generation follow-up to the terrifying series introduces the theme of escape as its core survival instinct. As Chris Redfield (former S.T.A.R.S. member and now part of the BSAA unit), your life is in danger as you strive to complete your most dangerous mission yet in a sweltering desert colony where a new breed of evil has been unleashed. Swarms of marauding evil beings will charge at you when your pulse is racing at a heart-shattering pace. Environments will play a bigger factor than ever here, using the power of next-gen systems to create a world where terror might lurk in any alcove or shadow. Powerful lighting effects overwhelm the player with mirage movement and blinding brilliance, and even in the light of day, there is no safe haven in this Resident Evil.

Two Playable Characters – Chris Redfield, protagonist of the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, returns and is joined by new playable character Sheva Alomar, an African BSAA agent tasked with investigating the epidemic.
Two Player Online Co-op – New cooperatively-focused gameplay revolutionizes the way that Resident Evil is played. Chris and Sheva must work together to survive new challenges and fight dangerous hordes of enemies.
Next Generation of Fear – Features groundbreaking graphics that utilize an advanced version of Capcom’s proprietary game engine, MT Framework, which powered the hit titles Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet and Dead Rising.
"Quick-Select" Inventory System – Improved inventory system allows items to be traded between characters. To add to the intensity, all inventory management is done in real time; items can even be assigned to the directional pad for instant access.
New Control Schemes – Features new modernized third-person action game control variations as well as the return of the traditional Resident Evil 4 control schemes.
New Enemies Bring New Challenges – Enemies boast increased speed and intelligence, making them as dangerous alone as they are in groups.
Powerful New Weapons – The number of weapon variations has been greatly increased providing new ways to keep enemies at bay.
Fear Light as much as Shadow – Lighting effects provide a new level of suspense as players attempt to survive in both harsh sunlight and extreme darkness.

Elfpack User Reviews:

Coming off it's predecessor, RE 5 had a lot to live up to.

The previous entry -Resident Evil 4- reinvented the survival horror genre after years of slow but sure staleness, and it was all for the better. RE 4 brought us a new over-the-shoulder camera perspective, strategic item placement, and quicktime button events. Combine this with a satisfying storyline which, though slow at times, provided genuine chills at all the right places, and you've got an instant classic. Giving the aging franchise a much needed adrenaline shot to the heart.

Resident Evil 5, though good, doesn't do much to add to the evolution seen in RE 4. The story starts off in an African shantytown, where series mainstay Chris Redfield has been dispatched to find a local scientist seeking to sell a new BOW (Bio-Organic Weapon) on the black market.
The Spencer Mansion incident was a decade ago, and Chris has since joined a counter-terrorist organization known as the BSAA; a group dedicated to the security of any given nation from the threat of bio-terrorism. He is quickly teamed up with a local operative named Sheva Alomar, and soon they are both entangled in a plot that will lead them through twists, thrills, shifty go-betweens, and an old acquaintance hell-bent on revenge.

A first to the series is the addition of co-op gameplay where another player takes control of Sheva. This adds a new layer of fun to the series, with each person relying on one another for fire support and puzzles that split up the characters for a brief moment. Items can be shared and players can heal each other. Though don't expect the same when playing alone; the AI can be frustrating at best.

My main gripe with RE5 is that it is too action-oriented and somewhat lacking of the tense mood found in RE4. The dialogue is at times laughable, and the plot can be convoluted. That's not to say that this is a bad game at all; there are some great moments to be had here. And certain parts will have you at the edge of your seat, eagerly awaiting where it will take you next.
The controls, while game changing in the previous entry, now feel out-dated and in need of a new take. The much dreaded "tank controls" are back with a vengeance not seen since De Niro's cold-dish serving character in Cape Fear. The good thing is that they can be changed to any of 4 configurations, with one being set up to feel like the Gears of War franchise.
The visuals are spectacular, and the sound is crisp and spine tingling. You will definitely want to play this on an HD tv with the lights turned off. Or on... Fraidy-cat.

All in all Resident Evil 5 is an experience that you will want to engage from start to finish. Just don't expect the progress seen in Resident Evil 4.

Though I didn't play the PS3 version, I imagine it's just the same yes? yes.
This game is without a doubt one of best ones yet! Original and RE4 being directly in front of it. The abiity to mazigmize your guns ability I believe is still qutie in tact, if I'm mistaken oh well! As such, the combinatin of the viral zomibie strain and the Las Plagas virus was a fucking wonderful idea! Kudos to them! But there's only one thing I would change about this game, and that's adding in more playable characters like in the oringinal RE, one more wouldn't hurt would it? No it would not, and for that I give it 4 S.T.A.R.S [Pun much intended!]

Resident Evil 5 is the perfect survival horror, many people reading this won't think it is scary. I think it is, sometimes. I got attacked with my friend with a chainsaw, and we both sat there screaming. It was the funniest thing ever. Graphics are amazing. And Sheva is the perfect partner. Also towards TYLER H, a loser. The story is epic, it follows on from REmake, and completely misses out outbreak and 4, mainly cos their stories were crap. The story had enough twists, and introduced Jill Valentine again, which was my favourite moment in a videogame EVER. Buy this, or your console will throw itself out your window in disgust.
