The young girl sat drawing a rainbow in her room, carefully colouring all the different layers in and shading the grass and sky green and blue.
She looked at the finished product and smiled. She looked up as her mother walked in, looking down at the picture she had just spend an hour colouring in.
She looked from the picture to her daughter’s small face. “What’s this rubbish?” she demanded.
Little Sarah gulped. “It’s a picture, mummy. I drew it for you.” She said, offering it out to her.
Her mother took it from her and looked at it. She looked back at her, “Why would I want this crap?” she snarled and ripped the picture in half.
Sarah watched as the two pieces of paper fall to the floor, devastated.
“You think a
picture is what will make up for all the stife you’ve caused me?” her mother asked in a deadly voice.
Sarah felt her eyes brimming. “I thought you might like-“
“Well I don’t! You’ve done nothing but cause me unhappiness since you were born! You stole everything from me! My life was better without you in it!”
Sarah desperatly tried to apologise for something she wasn’t aware she had done wrong.
“You’re useless! I wish you had never been born! Get out of my house now!” her mother yelled maniacally.
Sarah jumped up and fled from the house and out into the garden, tears staining her cheeks.
She knelt in the grass and looked at the sky. She closed her eyes and silently prayed for a day her mother would turn to her and tell her she loved her... rather than that she wishes her dead...
