Unlike most other Asian languages, there are no specific sounds to make for the pronunciation of these syllables. they are EXACTLY as written. Good news for us English speaking idiots, right? the "R"s you see above are not pronounced in the way we are used to. the R is rolled, like in Spanish to resemble and "L" sound. Some exceptions: は (ha) is pronounced "wa" when it follows a subject. は is said as "ha" when part of a word へ (he) is pronounce "e" when following a place or direction. ( http://www.fre づ (zu) and ぢ (ji) are very rarely used. づ (zu) only occurs when there is a つ (tsu) in front of it like in つづく (tsuzuku - to continue) or when a Kanji character that starts with つ (tsu) is paired at the end with another character changing つ (tsu) to づ (zu). The same for ぢ (ji). Since they are used so rarely ...forget aba't'um. You'll learn when they're gonna be used. \\Elfpack's Japanese Lessons |

2009-04-16 [Product of a Primal Urge]: how would you pronounce the "Tsu"? I mean...I know how I do and how I've heard it but...just want to make sure...
2009-04-16 [MadHatress]: eh...it's like a light T sound before the su...lol
like shitzu but with an s sound...
2009-04-16 [Product of a Primal Urge]: Haha, I like how you explained that. Thanks, I have been doing it right!
2009-04-16 [MadHatress]: ^^ I just listen to a lot of J-Rock, that's how I learn to pronunciate
2009-04-16 [Product of a Primal Urge]: Mm, good idea. I find some on youtube...any bands you'd suggest? that's my problem, I dont know the bands so can't find the music. v.v
2009-05-19 [hinata hyuuga (kimiko)]: um....i have a question...wha
2009-05-19 [MadHatress]: I would suggest practicing. try making the L sound, (la=ra le=re that kinda thing) because that's almost what you're doing honestly.
eventually, you'll get to where you can start rolling the R to an L.
another thing you can do, is listen to Jrock and listen to Japanese or Spanish speaking. focus on the way they speak and you can almost pick it up subconciously.
2009-05-19 [hinata hyuuga (kimiko)]: well i took spanish for 2 yrs and could never roll my r's...it made me so frustrated...l
2009-05-19 [MadHatress]: I know people who are the same way. It's not easy! The tongue is a tricky muscle to manuver, compared to popular belief
^^ you're welcome.
>....I need to get off my ass and work on these other lessons, lol
