Poi

Poi is also known as Fire Dancing.

Fire Poi is done using many methods.

Most people use wick balls on chains in which the wick is lit on fire and swung around in compound circles.

Another popular method is to use a Fire Staff.

2006-09-26 [FireGypsy]: I going to buy some glowsticks to practice with on the beach at night, so people can see how I improve and such. And its hard to do Poi at night when you cant see what you are doing lol!

I know they were ^-^ A famous one was called a Meteor. Sort of like the one used in the movie Kill Bill vol.1 by that little chinese girl. People use that with fire too, but its really hard to control and master so not many people do it.

I've only had a go with on fire ones, hit myself right between the eyes 7 times before I got them taken off me.

2006-09-27 [FireGypsy]: Yeah see I want to be good enough to NOT hit myself and light my hair on fire before I light up. And besides im making my own Poi, and my wick is coming in the mail so I can make my ends for lighting on fire. So even if I feel confident, I dont have the equipment yet.

2006-09-27 [FireGypsy]: Really? Thats awesome! Its weird because when I was younger I learned how to liquid dance, and sometimes I would use string to assist me, and recently learned about Poi and knew it was for me!

2006-09-27 [somethingwarm]: War dance, and karanga is chanting/singing for ceremonial purposes. It's hard to explain.
