This image I created for the ET Front page art contest is what caused this poem/story to come to life!
(http://elftown.eu/_ET%20Front%20page)
Hence, the original title for this story was, "Welcome... Eye Love Elftown".

<img900*15:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

I look through my eye and what do I see?
A quaint, little town here before me.
As I take in this intriguing place,
Wisps of hair, they tickle my face.
As I toss my head to shake 'em away,
I could have sworn I heard someone say,
"Come girl, come step inside".
There he stood with the gate open wide.
"Welcome! Welcome, to our little town.
Are you new here? Can I show you aroun'?"
"Oh," I thought."Tomorrow'd be best",
But I didn't want to refuse or really contest.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

Little did I know as I gently bowed down,
Who I was about to take through the town.
Although it was dark, it was a moonlit night.
Much could be seen without the daylight.
He guided me down street after street.
He didn't seem aware, I was still on my feet.
Some houses were brightly all lit,
While others just showed barely a bit.
As I trod along, his intention was clear.
He was in no hurry and harbored no fear.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

Then we came to a corner of three.
Here's where I stood under a tree.
A wise ol' owl was way up high.
Hollerin' and hootin', I didn't know why.
Just then, a sound caught my ear.
Sudden it was, and up I did rear.
The passenger aboard he stuck like glue
Then simply asked, "What frightened you?"
Well, I didn't know what had made me jump,
But then there he stood an elf so plump.
The clothes he wore were crumpled, yet clean
But, alas, his charm could readily be seen.
His hat just seemed to sit on his head
He must have just risen straight from his bed.
He wasn't too tall as most elves aren't.
His presence, though small, really did warrant
A measure of magic, an aura so wise,
What he said next really opened my eyes.
"You have come to a town of magic and dreams.
Where the thoughts of folks, or so it seems,
Once expressed with brush or with pen
Come to life again and again."
As the elf proceeded in his factual mode,
My curiosity swelled, but could only implode.
"As you entered this quaint little town,
What did you see scattered aroun'?"

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

I thought for a moment. "What had I seen?"
Then I remembered the beckoning scene;
A castle so grand along the seashore,
A fairy or two flying over the door.
There were a few boats down at the dock.
As well, I remembered the tick of a clock.
As I recalled the strangeness of this,
It seemed to partake in the serenal bliss.
The sound it made was loud, but conducive.
It's presence was strong, not really intrusive.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

At the top of the hour, there was no gong.
Instead, it just rang a light, peaceful song.
I don't suppose that this is so strange,
But what I say next will rightly arrange.
The numbers on the clock one couldn't see.
So the time it ticked, for you and for me,
Is time that is endless or does it stand still?
A thought to ponder at your own free will.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

As my mind started to wander a wee bit more,
The silence was broken with a dragon's roar.
At first, I shook with a shudder of fright,
But then I soon realized, what a delight!
For just beyond a moonbeam shown down
And quickly a smile turned up from a frown.
As I stood and watched with the elf and rider,
I became engrossed as my eyes grew wider.
I became so excited, I wanted to shout,
It was then I saw them scattered about.
Scurrying around busy as bees,
Back and forth amongst the trees.
So many elves for one to behold.
I just couldn't count. Let it be told.
Again, I was startled from a whirring sound,
But none to soon did I turn around.
The sound I heard that started a fright
Was a sound of wings come from the night.
All of a sudden, I started to stare
'Cause flying around, filling the air,
Were glittering fairies of wings been spun
With woven, web locks, the spiders had done
Some had wands they waived through the sky,
Others spritzed magic that got in my eye.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

Next came a trumpet, loud and precise,
No need here to roll any dice.
Everyone knew what was about to become.
All except me. I felt kinda' dumb!
What happened next, I'm still not sure.
It's not really plain, but rather obscure.
I could have sworn that I really did see
A fairy fly up to the top of a tree.
There she commanded a star from the sky
To focus its light from way up high.
Suddenly, the darkness was stripped away.
All around seemed like the light of day.
A marching band of elves appeared.
The crowd of people cheered and cheered.
All these folks of this little town
Suddenly here and gathered 'round.
From whence they came, I really don't know.
All I can say to this awesome show,
Is the bank I had stood on looking down,
From where I was wonderin' about this town,
Is now so distant and vague to me,
Because of the wondrous sight I see!

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

All of my thoughts, they're loud in my ear.
I think it's because of the silence now here.
I turn my attention to focus at hand
What's to be witnessed in this great land.
As the sound of the drums start beating again,
I notice my rider had written with pen.
But, still my brain hasn't processed it all,
For there's just so much that one can recall.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

The crowd stood solemn, quiet and still.
My rider sighed as he lay down his quill.
His story was finished. That I could tell.
With a confident air, somewhat tired as well,
He signaled a fairy as she riled a breeze.
Then at that moment I just had to sneeze.
As all of his words were whisked away,
It was at this moment I can honestly say.
When I added the sights I had witnessed here.
It was then in my head, a sum so clear!

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

As the drums draw closer, it's now I can see.
A parade so grand, but how can it be?
As the elves keep marching and playing their tune,
The fairies make welcome the man in the moon.
Here come the unicorns, dancing with glee.
Some drawing a carriage. For whom shall it be?
There's children aboard waving a hand.
Keeping in time with the beat of the band.
Everyone's dressed in bright colors and bows.
Even the unicorns have bells on their toes!
Ah! There's the trumpet as it sounds again.
I'm looking to see what's about to descend.
The rider he laughs, 'cause I'm looking so leery,
But this night's been so mystic and eerie.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

All of a sudden, the crowd screams out a cheer.
At last the moment we've waited for, here.
A beast-like creature with power and might
Steps forward and up and in to the light!
All the calm I had started to feel
Was instantly gone and now on appeal.
The crowd became so ghostly hushed
The hope I had felt was instantly crushed.
When he finally spoke, he let out a roar.
I trembled with fear like never before.
The leaves on the trees were quivering, too.
With no where to go, oh, what can I do?
As if this didn't cause fear enough,
Out stepped another, but wasn't as gruff.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

So, there I stood, this white unicorn
Without any wits to straighten my horn.
Here on my head was a big, lump of sort
That tickled my nose, 'til I needed to snort.
A very strange thing had happened to me.
My horn had wilted, so tragic to see.
With head bowed down, I was trying to hide,
For the writer I'd be a shame to ride.
My rider was kind as he tried to console,
But I was aghast beyond my control.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

With my head bowed down, I stared at my feet.
I didn't even care if my heart didn't beat.
One of the items I'd treasured the most,
Was my beautiful horn of which I did boast.
As I stood so humbly and so full of shame,
I didn't know who or what was to blame.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

All of a sudden, I opened my eyes,
The presence I felt was a big surprise.
As I looked down at my own little feet,
There beside 'em, I needn't repeat.
There was a foot the size of me!
Lord have mercy! This couldn't be!
Without raising my head one little spec,
I rolled my eyes upward just tilting my neck.
Enveloped I was, with such a great fear.
I wanted the earth to swallow me here.
The next thing I knew, I was hearing a voice.
By now I knew I had really no choice.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

The words that I heard were gentle and kind.
How they sunk in, to this scared, little mind,
I haven't a clue as to how or to why.
I thought I's a goner and surely would die.
With a deep, gentle tone, he commanded me
To raise my head for my eyes to see.
Slowly I raised my lowly, ol' head.
I remember my heart was heavy with dread.
When at last my eyes looked upon the face,
My heart began racing at a much faster pace.
The beast that I'd seen before in the light
Was standing before me in all of his height.
In spite of his tremendous, oversize
My fears dissolved as I looked in his eyes.
The depth that I saw would so frighten most,
But this gentle giant was a welcoming host.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

He beckoned the crowd to gather around.
They quickly did so, without making a sound.
As if he weren't quite tall enough,
He straightened right up and let out a puff.
He summoned his queen in such a sweet tone.
He cherished her greatly and let it be known.
As soon as she stood right by his side,
He spoke in a voice that was so dignified.
With a little to do about that and this,
He paused for a moment to give her a kiss.
With a grin on his face, he motioned the guard
To start a drum roll in the courtyard.
So everyone scurried and headed that way,
Except for the couple, who took a delay.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

When all was hushed, no milling around,
The silence was broken with a mighty sound.
As the king and queen stepped into the square,
It was plain to see the respect that was there.
The king's words seemed generally the same,
Until the roll and he mentioned my name.
The Dragon King, he motioned to me
"Step forward," he stated, "let us all see!
The one that is here and travels around
Helping the homeless in each little town.
Here is a badge that I'm awarding you
For kindness you show and the deeds you do."

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

I paused for a minute for suddenly I thought,
My horn's condition made me really distraught.
How could I step out into the square
With a blob like this poking out of my hair?
It was then that I saw a small, peaceful brook.
I ran over quickly to take a good look.
As I meandered my way down to the stream,
The fear gripped so hard, I wanted to scream.
As I approached and neared the water's edge,
I closed my eyes and so made a pledge.
If only the horn so limp on my face
Would again stand up in stature and grace.
As I gained the courage to take a peek,
I suddenly slipped and fell in the creek.
When I gained my footing on a rough, old stone,
I looked around, but I wasn't alone.
There on the shore and well up the bank
Everyone stood, while my heart just sank.
As I turned to cover my head in shame,
One glance in the water and I became
A unicorn embellished with joy!
My horn had returned, the real McCoy!

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

There on the bank with a mighty, big roar,
Stood King and Queen Dragon like never before.
In his hand he was waving something at me.
As he got closer, it was then I could see.
The badge I'd forgotten when rittled with fear,
In a rush to my brain it all became clear.
As the king bent down to drape and adorn,
This badge I'd earned, to hang on my horn.
Then in the shadow of a tree on shore,
My conscience reared up like never before.
There he stood my rider, again.
Just like before, he's holding a pen.
As I gladly bowed down in respect to the king,
I heard that old clock as it started to ring.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

I closed my eyes to picture once more,
The sight again, when I had stood at the shore.
When I opened my eyes, alas, it was night.
At first it startled me, gave me a fright.
But there at the gate, he was standing there still,
And in his left hand, he was holding a quill.
I convinced myself of little esteem
I had just woke up from a wonderful dream.
Again, I approached the squeaky, front gate.
Then something happened. Could it be fate?
The badge I had earned in a fabulous dream,
Was here with me, yet, or so it did seem.

<img500*5:http://www.elfpack.com/stuff/WoodLoopedDivider-ByArtsieladie1000x15_2013-09-27.png>

I touched and I felt it, rubbed it some, too,
Just had to be sure, it really was true!
Soon I heard the "Welcome", again
It was at that moment, I decided, then...
To award this badge to my new-found friend!

The End!
