The big thing with Drone Strikes -- which is what most of those focus on, is that you can't prevent civilian deaths by their use. Of course, you can prevent the death of Americans since they won't be in battle. By using drones, you lessen the amount of Americans who die in wars. So, you either lose more Americans, or you kill more innocent people. Obama is taking the stance to not kill more Americans.

The secondary focus seems to be on his very strong stance against terrorism, but that kind of makes sense. Most of the world doesn't like the USA. We have various countries openly talking about wanting to blow us up. In order to prevent something, you need a safeguard. Safeguards tend to mean giving up something, somewhere. It sucks, it's it's life. :P


Anyway, it doesn't really say Obama is targeting Americans with intention to kill them, and the longest article that I did read nearly all of actually points out how his policies root out a lot of abuse of the system that was prior used, and how he's trying to make things more open air with the public.

tl;dr: This has always happened. Obama's just being upfront about it, and he's trying to put policies in place to control it.
